Military to commence Operation LAST HOLD in North-East

In a last effort to bring enduring peace in the North East, the Nigerian Army is set to commence Operation Last Hold, a final push for the total defeat of Boko Haram terrorists in the region in order to facilitate the restoration of fishing, farming and other economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin general area.
In a statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Texas Chukwu said that additional troops and heavy equipment have been earmarked to beef up those already deployed. Troops and equipment are already assembling for onward movement to the operation area.
He added that the operation is expected to last 4 months and it entails deployment of additional 4 maneouvre brigades. The operation which is a major military exercise has Major General Abba Dikko as its Commander. The senior officer is already on ground coordinating the movement of troops and equipment.
Gen Chukwu added that general public and particularly residents around troops’ staging areas and environs are advised not to panic on sighting mass movement of troops and equipment as their safety is guaranteed. The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate its loyalty and subordination to the civil authority at all times while carrying out its constitutional roles.
Similarly, the Army has set up a Media Operation Centre for the ongoing Operation LAST HOLD in the North East. The Centre is established to coordinate all matters relating to media activities as well as dissemination of useful and timely information to the general public.
The Media Centre will coordinate all information emanating from the theatre in both traditional and social media platforms for prompt and adequate dissemination of information to ensure the successful conduct of the operation. The Centre will be coordinated by the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nuhu Angbazo, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai. The general public is requested to follow the activities of Operation LAST HOLD through the #operationLASTHOLD, Nigerian Army website and its social media platforms on www.army.mil.ng, Facebook/NigrianArmy, Twitter@HQNigerianArmy or call 193 for more information and clarification.
