A poorly-written official letter that went viral on social media purportedly signed by the Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University of Technology, Bauchi, Professor M.A. AbdulAzeez has elicited uproar over the quality of scholarship of the university.
The letter contained a congratulatory message to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami over his elevations by Federal University of Technology, Owerri to professor of cyber security.
The debate over the validity and the jurisdiction of FUTO to confer the professorship position to the minister is still raging, his alma-mater, ATBU wrote and congratulating him.
Experts in the education sector expressed their anger and disgust that a citadel of knowledge could write a letter full of both grammatical and syntax errors.
A lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria who craved anonymity lamented over the systemic decay of education in Nigeria, and called for serious reforms on Nigerian educations.
He added that “we need to be serious in the country. How can a professor and a vice-chancellor sign a letter like this? It is disgusting to say the least.
While social media commentators are still lampooning FUTO, calling the promotion as fraud and abuse of scholarship and knowledge, a new vista of anger is evolving at social media over the ATBU letter.
Farooq Kperogi, a Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media at Kennesaw State University, Georgia, wrote on his weekly column, exposing the fraudulent promotion of Pantami, citing various stages of attaining professorship, which Pantami has not met the least of the requirements.
