Due to the uncertainty over the date of school resumptions across Nigeria as a result of Covid-19 pandemic and the lingering feud between federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the authorities of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi has advised their female students to start getting married, while their male counterparts to go and learn handcraft to sustain themselves.
In a circular signed by the institution’s Director Academic, Fatima Inuwa Abdullahi for the Register with reference number ATBU/ACA/SGM/34B, dated 13/01/2021 for the general public, said: “The attention of the institution has been drawn to a false circular spreading on social media purported to have been issued by the University on the resumption of academic activities slated for 18th January, 2021.
“We therefore urge the general public to disregard such news as the said circular did not emanate from the University and als0 the date f0r academic resumption is yet to be ascertained by the Institution in conjunction with the Federal Government of Nigeria due to the Second Phase Outbreak of Covid-19 in the country.
“Students and the general public are hereby advised that all the male genders should go and learn hand work and the female genders as well start getting married. We MOVE,” the circular concluded.
However with the recent announcement by the Federal Ministry of Education directing all schools to resume academic activities by January 18, 2021, the authorities of ATBU may likely conform to the new directive and jettison the earlier advice.
