Thrills and Frills As Emir Bamalli Receives Staff Of Office

The city of Zaria was full to brim today as important dignitaries and people from different parts of Nigeria and abroad thronged to the ancient city for the coronation and presentation of the staff of office to Ambassador Malam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli as the 19th Emir of Zazzau.

Ambassador Bamalli succeeded the Late Emir Shehu Idris who died on the September 20, 2020, having been on the throne for 45 years.

He is the first son of Nuhu Bamalli, the late Magajin Garin Zazzau, and the first emir from Mallawa ruling house in 100 years.

The 19th Emir of Zazzau who arrived the coronation venue along with his entourage and awaited the arrival of the Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who was represented by the minister of environment, Alhaji Mahmud Mohammed at the occasion.

The event was now flagged off with the national anthem and opening prayers

The installation and presentation of staff of office was done by Governor of Kaduna State Malam Ahmad El-Rufa’i who was among the earliest dignitaries seated at the dais.

The coronation was kick-started by the Madaucin Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmadu Kyauta when he presented the new Emir with the traditional regalia of alkyabba while trumpets are sounded to herald the installation.

Next is the Magajin Pare who blew the historic trumpet, Kakaki heralded the installation of the 19th Emir of Zazzau Ambassador Mallam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli. Dane guns were fired saluting the new monarch

The oath of office and allegiance was observed and followed by the presentation of staff of office by the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai together with the two traditional flags of Shehu Usman Dan Fodio designated for the Zazzau Emirate. A Holy Qur’an was also presented to the new Emir

In his address, Governor El-Rurai congratulated the new Emir, he prayed for Almighty Allah to guide him in the discharge of his duties and responsibilities.

He also solicited for the cooperation and support of all and sundry for the emir to discharge his traditional duties accordingly.

The new Emir who delivered his address in English and Hausa thanked Almighty Allah for elevating him to the exalted position. He promised to discharge his constitutional and traditional with the fear of Allah.

The Wazirin Zazzau, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu presented a vote of thank to the teeming dignitaries that graced the occasion.

He thank President Muhammadu Buhari, the minister of environment, Alhaji Mahmud Mohammed, Governor Nasir ElRufai, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Saad Abubakar,the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai and over emirs and chiefs from different parts of Nigeria and beyond who attended the event.

Closing prayers by the Limamin Kona, will draw the curtain on this historic occasion.

 

PROFILE OF THE NEW EMIR

 

Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli (born 8 June 1966) is a Nigerian lawyer, banker and diplomat. He is the former Nigerian ambassador to Thailand, with concurrent accreditation to Myanmar and the current Emir of Zazzau, a Nigerian traditional state headquartered in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

He is the first Emir from the Mallawa ruling house to be enthroned in a century after the demise of his grandfather, Emir Alu Dan Sidi in 1920.

Bamalli was born in Kwarbai Zaria city, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He is the first son of Nuhu Bamalli (who once served as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs). He was educated at Ahmadu Bello University where he obtained (LLB) law degree in 1989, and master’s degree in international affairs and diplomacy from the same university in 2002. He obtained a post graduate diploma in management from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1998.

 

Bamalli also attended a fellowship on conflict resolution at the University of York in 2009 and completed a diploma in organizational leadership from the University of Oxford in 2015. He also completed the General Management Program (GMP) at Harvard Business School in 2011.

He worked for the Metropolitan Management Agency before becoming head of human resources at Mtel, the mobile communication arm of the old Nigerian Telecommunications Limited.

He has worked in banking and as executive director and later acting managing director of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Limited.

He was permanent commissioner in the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission in 2015.

Until his appointment as the new emir of Zazzau, Bamalli held the title of Magajin Garin Zazzau and served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Thailand, with concurrent accreditation to Myanmar.

He was appointed as the new Emir of Zazzau by Nasir el-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State on 7 October 2020.

He is the first son of Nuhu Bamalli (Magajin Garin Zazzau).

Bamalli is the first emir from Mallawa ruling house in 100 years.
