The ancient city of Zaria witnessed massive influx of All Progressive Congress (APC) faithfuls from all the 23 local government of Kaduna State to witness the revalidation of the party’s membership of Alhaji Sani Mahmud Sha’aban, the Dan Buram Zazzau.
Dan Buram, in-law to President Muhammadu Buhari, Sha’aban is a strong ally with decades of personal and political ties with the president and he is the only politician in the political history of Nigeria that President Buhari raised his hands and presented him to the public for four consecutive times.
Sha’aban is one of the strongest contender to succeed Nasir el-Rufai as the governor of Kaduna State.
Despite his repeated pleas and calls to his supporters to stay back in their destinations in order to observe the COVID protocols, still the city was full to brim.
Sha’aban’s revalidation has also elicited the inflow of many politicians from other party to APC.
In a chat with Malam Isa Abdullah a chieftain of PDP from Kaduna South, he explained that this event has affirmed that Sha’aban is in APC and will contest in 2023.
“Despite party difference, many politicians from the other parties are of firm believe that Sha’aban is the right candidate and today you noticed how people are tearing their membership cards of various political parties and joining APC,” he added.
In a chat with Adamu Chawai who came all the way from Gwantu said: “today is a milestone in our journey to Sir Kashim House. Our leader, the Dan Buram is matching and we have to do all we can to assist him realize his ambition. I can’t stay back in Gwantu, I have to be in Zaria to register my solidarity.”
Malam Abubakar Lawal from Birnin Gwari said despite the hazards of Birnin Gwari Road, he has to be in Zaria, adding that: “Our state, Kaduna needs a leader like Sha’aban who has empathy and concern on what masses are going through, therefore all hands ought to be on deck to support him.”
